Stephen Lacy
Stephen Lacy is a multi-media artist who works under the art moniker Academy Records, a creative platform that produces site-specific installations, live performances, and visual artworks for museums and galleries around the world. Academy Records’ projects are composed with various media, including sculpture, film, music and sound, drawing, recordings, printed ephemera and more, immersing viewers in the overlapping histories and themes of music, film, literature, industry and landscape.
Academy Records has exhibited commissioned projects as part of the New England Biennial at deCordova Sculpture Park & Museum and the Whitney Biennial in New York, and presented solo shows at Actual Size Los Angeles, Greenlease Gallery, Gallery Wassermuhle, Herron School of Art, Art Gallery of Knoxville, Hyde Park Art Center, Linda Warren Gallery, and Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago, among others. Academy Records projects have been discussed in Artforum, Art in America, Artnet News, Boston Globe, New York Times, NPR and WIRE Magazine, among other outlets. Lacy has lectured widely at colleges and universities in the United States and Europe and been artist-in-residence at Illinois State University’s School of Art; Can Serrat, Spain; Good Hatchery, Ireland; Center for Land Use Interpretation, Utah; and Kunstlerstatte Stuhr, Germany.
