Professor Janecek’s Modern Art & Science Collaboration

This past Spring, Professor James Janecek worked with biology professor Dr. Charles Toth in bringing their two classes together, Digital Imaging: 3D Game Characters and Immunology. Both classes collaborated in combining their understanding of digital imaging and the immune system, respectively, in order to create a game board like Dungeons and Dragons. The Immunology, “students were charged with developing “attacks” and “defenses” for the characters to align with actual biological functions of the cells”. While, the Digital Imaging students learned, “how to use cutting-edge digital design software”. Their end goal was to develop a game that was functional and related to the topics in science. This collaboration exhibits the interconnections between different fields at Providence College that mirror that one will see in the real world. Dr. Toth himself comments that the two groups working together, “highlights the synergy of PC and the liberal arts”.
