Virginia Thomas
Virginia Thomas (she/her/hers) is a scholar of race, gender, sexuality, and the visual with particular interest in how race shapes the legibility of gendered and sexual identities. Her book project, Dark Trees: Visual Grammars of Family and Lynching Aesthetics and her public-facing work has been supported by the Woodrow Wilson Foundation and she has published in the feminist review. She is also the founder of the Queer StoRIes Project, an intergenerational oral history project pairing LGBTQ youth and elders in Rhode Island to share their stories. She received her PhD in American Studies and MA in Public Humanities from Brown University and is currently an Assistant Professor of Women’s and Gender Studies and Art History at Providence College.
